Abstract
Tn order to establish a method to classify jujube strains by using isozyme system, several isozymes were tested by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with leaf extracts of Korean native jujubes.
Glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) system showed different banding pattern with different strains. There was a band of Rf 0.05 in the morning flowering strains, but was no band in that Rf values in the afternoon flowering strains. Esterase and peroxidase banding patterns could be also divided into two and four groups, respectively.
Soluble protein and fumarase isozyme pattern did not show obvious differences among strains, even though a little difference in quantity was recognized. There was no apparent difference in banding patterns with different strains in alcohol dehydrogenase, maleate dehydrogenase, and diaphorase.
It was concluded that isozyme analysis might be able to use for classification of Korean native jujube strains with allozyme phenotypes to be joined with GOT, esterase, and peroxidase system. Ja-2 and Jk-4 among tested strains, however, had same pattern of allozyme phenotype.
